Boston Recap: Part 1

What started out as a four day getaway-to-anywhere quickly turned into a full-blown epicurean quest once the mister and I realized what a culinary gem the downtown Boston area is. We stayed at the Harborside Inn on State St. which is right in the center of downtown. The hotel was surrounded by great places to eat to drink – especially seafood restaurants and pubs; boy, do the Bostonians love their seafood and beer.

Our first stop was Kingston Station, a bar/restaurant, for dinner on Thursday. I would define their menu as ‘New American.’ I ordered the seasonal ravioli, which was a 3-mushroom ravioli served in a cheesy cream sauce. It was delicious and I loved that the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente.

My camera decided to be temperamental after that night so I was taking pictures with Alen’s camera thereafter; which was actually great since he is a proud owner of a beautiful Nikon SLR.

The next morning we headed for breakfast in the Millenium Bostonian Hotel’s chic restaurant North 26.

This meal was undoubtedly my favorite during our stay in the delicious city. Firstly, the service was outstanding and the waitress seemed genuinely interested when she asked “How’s everything?” Secondly, they must’ve known I was coming because the musical accompaniment to our breakfast was a mix of Edith Piaf and Stephane Grappeli.

While meticulously deciding what I should eat, I was ordered an orange juice and coffee. The juice was fresh-squeezed and pulpy (yum!) and the coffee was perfectly bitter.

Their breakfast menu was short and simple, consisting of a few waffle and pancake options, fresh fruit, and eggs prepared in different styles. I ordered the three egg omelette with mushrooms, onions, bacon and cheddar. It was served with a side of home fries, buttered toast, the cutest 1 ounce jars of raspberry preserves and orange marmalade, and a tiny glass bottle of Heinz ketchup (which I sadly neglected to photograph.)

The food was awesome and tasted homemade. If we didn’t have a train to catch to Salem, I’d probably stay in that wonderful place through lunch and dinner!
